What if a child’s parents are separated or divorced?

If parents are separated or divorced, it is important to let us know before counseling begins and provide information about the child’s custody and decision-making arrangements.

This helps our team understand who is authorized to consent to treatment, how parents or guardians should be involved, and how information about the child’s care can be shared appropriately. Clear communication at the beginning also helps protect the child from being placed in the middle of parental disagreements and allows therapy to remain focused on the child’s well-being.
